President Obama as salesman

When you cannot trust someone on past issues why would you think they could change. President Obama has spent two years blaming the Republicans in congress for sidelining growth, blaming President Bush for the mess we are in all the while taking no responsibility for anything of this himself. So know when he is pushing hard for a victory on the START treaty he sought to assure Republican lawmakers that a new arms control treaty with Russia would not hamper our missile defense. President wishy-washy said that as long as he is president we will continue to develop and deploy effective missile defenses to protect the United States, our deployed forces, and our allies and partners. The 37-59 vote against the measure shows there is real doubt the Senate can ratify the treaty as written before a new, more Republican Congress assumes power in January. The treaty requires a two-thirds vote in the 100-member Senate and its fate is uncertain. The full court press from President Obama used his weekly radio and Internet address to plead for Senate ratification. The treaty, signed by President Obama and Russian President Dmitry Medvedev in April, would limit each country’s strategic nuclear warheads to 1,550, down from the current ceiling of 2,200, and establish a system for monitoring and verification. U.S. weapons inspections ended a year ago with the expiration of the 1991 arms control treaty.
