Maryland wants to raise the Gas Tax

You never have to go far to find a politician that just does not get it. This is clear when someone thinks that the only way to raise revenue is to tax people. The dumber move is try to tax gas as if the price is not high enough, the idea is to raise it even higher. You would think this is a joke but it is true if Governor Martin O’Malley get his way. This was the outcome of a roundtable discussion on the transportation trust fund and they even said if you think the gas prices are high now, there is a plan that could push them even higher. What makes this even sillier is they had a failed effort to increase the state tax on gasoline during the regular General Assembly session. What is in the water in Baltimore anyway? The plan to raise the state gas tax to cover road construction and repair is needed for a twelve cents raise to the existing 23.5 cents Marylanders already pay. This is going to happen it is just a question of when. You would think they would get it a tax that the business community universally supports is the gas tax. The general public universally and unanimously is a gas tax. When add we are paying the highest prices in four years and the summer could be highest prices ever. When will they ever get it, and the answer is never.
