President Obama signs Patriot Act extension

Remember when you were young and had an opinion and a wiser older person told you the hard truth. You did not believe them but then one day you are older and understand why it is true. We feel this part of the on the job learning and growing up of our president. Congress passed a four-year extension of the post-Sept. 11 powers to search records and conduct roving wiretaps in pursuit of terrorists. The vote was 250-153 in the House and 72-23 in the Senate 72-23. President Obama was in France, and signed used the autopen machine that holds a pen and signs his actual signature. Do you remember when a younger President Obama with a different view of the world was running for president and he talked about stopping the wire taps or changes the bill to diminish the government’s ability to monitor individual actions. He would say things like it gave too much power to government without enough judicial and congressional oversight. Then when he put on his big boy pants in the real job the FBI, CIA and Joints told him why it is so important. The measure would add four years to the legal life of roving wiretaps, court-ordered searches of business records, and surveillance of non-American suspects with confirmed ties to terrorist groups.
